Our Partnership with PH Miller

In early 2012, we began praying about how we could expand our influence on our community.  We believed it was our job to BE the Church, the hands and feet of Jesus, and a light to offer Hope.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:14-16

While we had the desire to be this light of the world, we still were not sure exactly what that meant.  The Lord graciously presented us with the idea of reaching out to the public school.  This made perfect sense to us considering the school is the heart of the community, and it gives us the ability to reach out and minister to parents, children, faculty and staff.

Our first step was to contact PH Miller, an elementary school within a mile of our physical building.  We sought to serve in whatever ways we could, even though we didn’t know exactly what that looked like.  The administration at PHM was more than willing to welcome us, and brainstorm different ways that we could be of assistance.

We started our service by sending volunteers to the after school program EXPLORE, hosted at PH Miller.  Each year, this program contains approximately 50 1st grade students that our volunteers have grown to love.  We help with homework, share a snack, and simply engage with these fun students.

Since we first began this relationship with PH Miller, our partnership has spread into a variety of areas.  We have been blessed to serve by helping these families provide Christmas for their children and assisting them in the purchasing of school supplies to help lighten the load for parents.  We also provide fun, family friendly activities like our Easter Egg Scramble, and Kid Network Camp, as well as take care of everyday physical needs for students in need such as, winter coats, shoes, and boots.  We have been a presence at the Back to School Bash, and even contributed at different family events held at the school.  In 2014, we launched the Kids Hope USA mentoring program, which you can read more about in the next article.  It is our joy to serve the community and we hope that our efforts to be a light, lead people to Jesus.

We are so thankful for this partnership, and know that it will continue to develop for many years to come.  We look forward to seeing where the Lord takes us, and we anxiously await the next move that He has for us.
